About the Artist & Artwork
French painter Odilon Redon (1840–1916) was a leading figure of the Symbolist movement, celebrated for his dreamy, mystical works that explored the deep realms of the subconscious. While he started his career creating dark, monochromatic charcoal drawings known as his "noirs," he later transitioned into a brilliant explosion of color, using oils and pastels to bring mythological legends and internal visions to life.

Painted in France, Esquisse pour Le Char d Apollon (Sketch for the Chariot of Apollo) captures Redon's long obsession with the Roman sun god. The piece features a powerful, glowing nude figure set against a swirling sky of deep amber and smoky blue.
