Norbert Goeneutte was an influential French painter and etcher closely linked with the Impressionist movement. Born in Paris, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts before establishing himself in Montmartre, a vibrant artistic hub where he became friends with prominent figures like Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Goeneutte frequently captured the evolution of modern French life, painting bustling Parisian streets, grand railway stations, and tranquil coastal scenes during his travels through Normandy and across the English Channel. His work brilliantly documents the atmosphere of late nineteenth-century Europe, combining traditional realism with the fluid, light-filled experimentation of his Impressionist peers.
