About the Artist:
Francis Picabia was a French painter and poet born in 1879. He was a major figure in the Dada movement. He lived and worked mostly in Paris. He created this untitled drawing in 1923. During this specific time, he began moving away from machine like abstractions. He started exploring figurative line drawings instead.

Picabia was famous for constantly changing his artistic style. He refused to be tied down to one single movement. He often traced images from classical art or popular magazines to create his compositions. This overlapping linear technique became a signature element of his later work. He loved fast cars and yachts just as much as he loved painting. He died in 1953.
